CAT LEASH TRAINING

Sometimes it's tough to ensure that indoor cats get the exercise they need. Outdoor cats, while often more fit, are at a greater risk to accidents and injury. Training your cat to walk on a leash can be the perfect solution. It may sound silly or impossible, but with some training and coaching you can get your cat to walk on a leash. It's best if training begins when your cat is young. You will need a harness, collar and leash. Put the collar on your cat for short periods of time. Do this for a couple of days or until she becomes accustomed to it. Next, do the same with the harness, having her wear it for short periods of time over a period of several days. Once your cat has become accustomed to the harness, attach the leash and leave it on, again, for short periods of time over several days until she is used to that. Next, take short walks with your cat, but just inside the house. You can encourage her with toys or treats. Once she has that down, start taking some short walks outside. Try to do so in a quiet area away from busy roads. Gradually increase the time until you're taking longer walks.
